The D.K. Kim Loan is an interest-free loan program available to full-time MBA international students entering their second year of studies at the Haas School of Business and that do not qualify for the U.S. Federal Loan programs.

Funding levels vary depending on the number of applicants and financial need. Recipients will be expected to repay their award over a 5-year repayment schedule, beginning six months after graduation. The repaid funds go on to provide similar support to future Haas students.

There is a community service requirement of 100 hours in lieu of any interest, which can include any documented volunteer work during the first year at Haas as well as volunteer work completed in the second year. Examples of community service where past borrowers have volunteered include the following:

  • Young Entrepreneurs at Haas (YEAH)
  • Alameda Point Collective
  • Challenge for Charity
  • LGBT National Help Center
  • St. Vincent de Paul, Dining Room
  • Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program
